Step 1: Check Eligibility
- Indian Citizen: You must be an Indian citizen to apply for an Indian passport.
- Age Criteria: Passport applicants should be at least 18 years of age. Minor applicants (below 18) must have a guardian or parent apply on their behalf.
Step 2: Gather the Required Documents
For Normal Passport (Adult Applicants):
- Proof of Date of Birth: Birth certificate, school leaving certificate, or a copy of your matriculation certificate.
- Proof of Identity: Aadhar card, voter ID, PAN card, driving license, etc.
- Proof of Address: Utility bill, Aadhar card, bank statement, ration card, etc.
- Passport-size Photograph: Two or more passport-size photos (standards depend on passport office guidelines).
For Minor Applicants:
- Proof of Date of Birth: Birth certificate.
- Parental Proof: Parents' passport copies (if applicable).
- Passport-size Photograph: Recent photograph.
- Form 2 (Minor Application): Special form for minor applicants.
Step 3: Register and Fill the Application Form
- Online Application: Visit the official Passport Seva Portal, create a user account, fill the application form, and make the payment.
- Offline Application: If you're unable to apply online, you can visit a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Regional Passport Office (RPO) to apply offline.
Step 4: Pay the Passport Fee
- Normal Passport (36 pages): ₹1,500
- Normal Passport (60 pages): ₹2,000
- Tatkaal Passport: ₹3,500 (for 36 pages), ₹4,000 (for 60 pages)
You can pay the fee online using net banking, debit card, or credit card. After making the payment, print the receipt for your appointment.
Step 5: Book an Appointment at Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)
Visit the Passport Seva Portal to book an appointment at the nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Regional Passport Office (RPO).
Step 6: Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)
On the scheduled date, visit the PSK with the following:
- Printed Application Form
- Fee Payment Receipt
- Original Documents for verification
- Photocopies of all documents
Once at PSK, your documents will be verified, and biometric data will be collected. Police verification will follow.
Step 7: Track Your Application
After submitting your application, you can track the status using your application reference number (ARN) on the Passport Seva Portal.
Step 8: Receive Your Passport
Once your passport is ready, you will be notified. You can either have it delivered to your address or collect it from the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).
